Auckland Central Playcentre, as it was then known, began about 1970. First run from a council building in Collingwood Street, it moved to a council house at 23 Franklin Road in 1972 before shifting to its current site (and a purpose built building) in 1975, where it remains today as Freemans Bay Playcentre.

Over the years, a great number of families have joined our Playcentre community, giving hundreds of thousands of hours to the parent cooperative. When you leave Playcentre the friendships and bonds between members remain, as well as the deep connection to the place itself.

Playcentre is our tūrangawaewae, our place of belonging.
